The work. Four decades of measurement of the gender pay gap: how much is occupation, how much is experience, how much is left over, and how the answer has changed since 1980. With Lawrence Kahn, the cross-country comparisons that showed wage structure matters as much as discrimination. The standard textbook on the economics of gender, with Ferber and Winkler.

The case for. The highest-ranked woman in Richard Tol's model, which pairs her with Kevin Murphy. Goldin's 2023 prize opened the door to a gender-economics prize; Blau is the empiricist who kept the series going.

The case against. Goldin just won on this subject, the committee has never given two prizes on the same question within a decade, and no market lists her.

The KmikeyM angle. Blau's method is decomposition: strip out what is explained and look hard at the residual. KmikeyM has been running the same exercise on one man's life since 2008.
