The work. The economics of social networks. Jackson and Wolinsky's model of network formation, the textbook Social and Economic Networks, and empirical work on how information, jobs and microfinance travel through villages in India.

The case for. Richard Tol's model names him as Sanford Grossman's likely partner on an economics-of-information prize. Networks are the one field of theory the committee has never touched.

The case against. His model-implied probability is below Grossman's 4.4 percent, no market lists him, and a networks prize may be a decade early.

The KmikeyM angle. Jackson studies how a decision made by one node moves through everyone connected to it. A shareholder vote is that diagram, drawn weekly.
