The work. The alternating-offers bargaining model of 1982, models of bounded rationality, and a long public argument that economic theory is a set of fables, not a forecasting machine.

The case for. The bargaining model is in every graduate curriculum, and his bounded-rationality work anticipated much of behavioral economics.

The case against. He says in public that theory should not be used to steer policy, which makes him an awkward laureate, and pure theory has had a thin decade at the committee. Born in 1951.

The KmikeyM angle. Rubinstein's model splits a pie between two impatient parties, and the KmikeyM share price is a running bargain between Mike's patience and his shareholders'.
