The work. Eight centuries of crises, catalogued. This Time Is Different (2009), with Rogoff, showed that debt crises follow the same script across countries and eras, and nobody believes it until it happens to them.
The case for. Among the most cited economists alive, a former World Bank chief economist, and her crisis data set is used everywhere.
The case against. Bernanke, Diamond and Dybvig took the financial crises prize in 2022. The 2013 spreadsheet error in her debt threshold paper still follows her, and the committee dislikes a fight.
The KmikeyM angle. A person with shareholders is a small sovereign. Reinhart's rule is that lenders forgive everything right up until they forgive nothing, and Mike's shareholders have been patient.
