The work. Kirzner's Competition and Entrepreneurship, from 1973, put the entrepreneur at the center of how markets work: not a risk-bearer or a manager but someone alert to a profit opportunity nobody else has noticed.
The case for. Entrepreneurship is now a Nobel-adjacent topic, and Baumol, named with him, was the field's other pillar.
The case against. Baumol died in 2017, Kirzner is in his mid-nineties, and the Austrian school got its one prize with Hayek in 1974.
The KmikeyM angle. Selling shares in yourself in 2008 was a Kirznerian act: a profit opportunity sitting in plain sight that nobody else was alert to.
