The work. The resume audit study with Mullainathan that showed identical resumes with Black-sounding names got fewer callbacks, plus research on CEO pay, gender gaps at the top, and corporate governance.
The case for. The audit study is a landmark in discrimination economics and a model of how to make a hard thing measurable. Her range across labor and corporate finance is unusual.
The case against. The committee just rewarded a labor-market empiricist in Goldin, and the discrimination work may be read as one famous paper rather than a program.
