The work. The financial accelerator with Bernanke and Gilchrist, which shows how balance-sheet damage amplifies a downturn, and the Clarida, Galí, and Gertler monetary policy framework.
The case for. The 2008 crisis played out like a Bernanke and Gertler paper. He supplied the theory that turned a banking panic into a macro model.
The case against. Bernanke already won in 2022 for banks and crises, and Gertler was not named alongside him. The committee has spent that citation.
The KmikeyM angle. The financial accelerator says a small hit to net worth becomes a large hit to credit. A bad month for Mike knocks the share price, which knocks the next raise, which is the accelerator running on one person.
