The work. Banking and corporate finance theory with Diamond and Zingales, the 2005 Jackson Hole warning that finance was making the world riskier, and the book Fault Lines on the 2008 crisis.
The case for. He called the crisis before it happened, then ran India's central bank. Academics with that policy record get a second look.
The case against. Douglas Diamond, his most frequent co-author, won in 2022 without him. Born in 1963, he has time, and a public-intellectual profile sometimes reads as less academic than the record is.
