The work. Murphy is the Chicago empiricist behind the skill-biased story of wage inequality, the Becker-Murphy theory of rational addiction, and the big-push model of industrialization with Shleifer and Vishny. He took the Clark Medal in 1997 and a MacArthur in 2005.
The case for. Inequality is the committee's favorite subject this decade, and Murphy's data work on it came first.
