The work. Putting nature on the balance sheet: natural capital as wealth that depreciates, the economics of biodiversity, and the 2021 Dasgupta Review commissioned by the UK Treasury.
The case for. Nordhaus got climate in 2018, but the broader question of valuing ecosystems has never been rewarded, and Dasgupta is its founding figure with fifty years of theory behind him.
The case against. He was born in 1942 and the committee has passed on him for decades. Environmental economics just had its turn, and the Review is a report, not a paper.
The KmikeyM angle. Dasgupta's whole argument is that an unpriced asset gets run down; KmikeyM priced the human asset precisely so someone would notice the depreciation.
